Alcubilla, at the edge of Castile

The hill in Alcubilla del Marqués where a fortress where located in the Middle Ages, province of Soria / ALC.

According to El Cantar, El Cid crossed through Alcubilla, “at the edge of Castile”, on the eighth day of exile. That is to say, Alcubilla, where there used to be a fortress on the top of its cone-shaped hill, was considered the edge of “civilized” Castile; beyond this point, to the south of the river Duero, there was a large borderland zone. It needs to be noted that King Alfonso VI had taken control over southern territories. Yet, laws were not so strict there.
