Historical-Artistic Centres of Peñaranda de Duero

Castle of Peñaranda de Duero, Burgos / ALC

Calle Real, 1. Peñaranda de Duero

947 552 063 - Tourist Office

Peñaranda de Duero was designated a historical-artistic centre in 1974. Visits should start in its porticoed Main Square, where you can see the ex-collegiate of St Anne and the Palace of the Counts of Avellaneda, the family that built it in the 16th century. It is a good example of a Renaissance palace and indeed it contains one of the most valuable coffered ceilings of that time in Castilla y León.

As a curiosity, in this town there is one of the oldest chemist shops in Spain, as it apparently already existed in the 13th century. It is also worth going up to the castle (it’s an easy climb), to enjoy the lovely views.
