It was built in the 13th century, during the lordship of Lady Blanca Alfonso.

The wall, known as 'El Cinto” (The Belt), surrounded the whole town. Nowadays, remains can be seen in the Jewish quarter and beside the Roman Bridge. It had four accesses: the Puerta del Campo (Countryside Gate), that of La Traición (Treason), the Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower, still in use) and drawbridge.
