In the second half of 1098, El Cid bestowed many riches, including a town which was known as Frenales (this place is currently known as Pobla de Farnals), to the cathedral of Santa María, in Valencia, which had just been renovated. This is the first documentary evidence of the town, which at that time was a Muslim farmstead.
